Pavol Jozef Safarik University forms part of an historic academic region of Košice known as Universitas Cassoviensis, established in 1657. UPJS is one of the most prominent educational and scientific institutions in Central Europe. The university has a long history of academic success. It consists of the faculties of Medicine, Science, Law, Public Administration and the Faculty of Arts. It hosts over 7,300 students, out of which 1,300 are international students. It offers two international programs: the general medicine international program and dental medicine international program. There are approximately 220 highly trained academic and teaching staff. The faculty can offer students a unique link between theory and practice by allowing students to have direct contact with patients whilst also giving them access to modern treatment methods at several medical institutions.
WHY CHOOSE UPJS:
Facilities
The Faculty of Medicine consists of approximately 70 units: institutes; departments; scientific research and experimental workplaces.
Accommodation
The Faculty’s Dormitory
There is a dormitory for international students located on Popradska street near the Faculty. Accommodation is split into units, with 2 individual rooms in each unit. The unit shares a bathroom with a shower. The cost per person is approximately €186 per month but it is necessary to pay for the whole semester in advance (that is €930 for 5 months). This price includes costs of water, heating, electricity and cleaning service of common premises including the bathrooms. Internet connection costs €10 per semester. There is a shared kitchen on each floor. There is also a limited offer of double rooms for lesser charge. Available rooms are allocated on a principle “first comes first served”. In order to book a room you need to be accepted to study and as a proof you must send a scan of your Acceptance Letter to the dormitories administration.
Renting an apartment
Renting an apartment in Košice is very easy. The cost will be around €300-€700 per month. In most cases, a security deposit is required in the amount of one month’s rent. We would advise that you ensure that your rent covers the costs of electricity, gas, water, cable TV, and internet. If the rent does not cover utilities these should not exceed €35 per month (PLN 100-150) for a studio apartment. The water bills are usually included in the rent.
The international program of General Medicine was established in 1992. A total of 360 ECTS must be attained by successfully passing examinations in order to receive the Doctor of General Medicine Diploma.
The Faculty of Medicine works closely with the Teaching Hospital of L. Pasteur in Košice, in which practical education in clinical disciplines is carried out.
The course is overseen by the Board of Faculty Experts and undertaken through examinations required by the state. Graduates are awarded the academic title “Doctor of General Medicine”, abbreviated “MUDr.” or “Doctor of Dental Medicine”, abbreviated “MDDr.” (both equivalent to M.D. degree)
To successfully enroll in the program you must have a high school leaving certificate and you must pass the entrance exam (multiple choice) in Biology and Chemistry
Tuition fees
Tuition for 1 academic year: EUR 10.500
