The University of Pécs with its 20 000 students, with more than 4 500 international students, with 1 400 lecturers and researchers, with its 10 faculties is one of the largest higher education institutions in Hungary. Its roots date back to 1367. The University of Pécs set the internationalization of the institution as a strategic and development priority. As part of this the UP offers more than 70 full and several short training programs in English as well as in other foreign languages. Thanks to its extensive networks of partnership and exchange programs with excellent universities in Europe, the United States and Asia, at the moment there are approximately 4500 foreign students studying at the University of Pécs, coming from more than 114 countries.

Accommodation

Further to accommodation in Pécs, incoming students have two basic options. They may stay in a dormitory or seek for alternative accommodation.

The University of Pécs has ten dormitories. They are located in quiet, residential areas of the city. The Faculties of the University as well as the city center are easily accessible from the dormitories. Most of the dormitories have recently been renovated. The rooms are nicely furnished and contain bathrooms. Bedclothes are supplied. Rooms are offered on a reasonable price level: approximately EUR 130 per month

Admission

In order to be offered a place in a bachelor’s (first cycle or undergraduate) program, you must have successfully completed your upper secondary (high school) education and be able to demonstrate the minimum language requirement.

In order to be offered a place in a master’s (second cycle or graduate) program, you must have been awarded a bachelor’s degree by an internationally recognized university and be able to demonstrate the minimum language requirement.

Tuition fees

BA/BSc €1700-€2750 per semester

MA/MSc €1500-€5500  per semester

Medical programs €4700-€7900 per semester

Location

Pécs is located in the south-west of the country and serves as the administrative and economic centre of Baranya county. Pécs has a rich cultural life and hosts a wide variety of historical buildings, such as the Basilica of St. Peter constructed in the 11th century.  Several Turkish buildings date back to the age of the Ottoman Empire and give the city a multicultural atmosphere. The city of Pécs was selected as one of the European Capitals of Culture for the year 2010. The University of Pécs was founded in 1367, making the oldest university in Hungary. It now ranks among the top European universities. It has 10 faculties and offers a wide range of courses, covering nearly every possible field of study
